Founded by Swiss artist Alaïa Parhizi and American entrepreneur Aidan Nelson, Wönzimer began with a vision to create a gallery that felt more like a home than a conventional exhibition space. They imagined an accessible, lived-in sanctuary where visual art, poetry, music, and diverse creative practices could coexist without hierarchy. Living up to its German namesake meaning "living room," Wönzimer was established as an independent cultural home rooted in creative freedom, authentic warmth, and a genuine appreciation of diversity.

Based in Lincoln Heights, Los Angeles, Wönzimer has evolved into a vital cultural hub. The gallery proudly represents 13 artists spanning a wide range of perspectives and mediums, presenting immersive solo exhibitions alongside thoughtfully curated thematic group exhibitions. These exhibitions bring established voices, emerging talent, and international projects into meaningful dialogue while encouraging new conversations across disciplines and cultures.

That original living room ethos is woven throughout the space, including a hidden bookshelf that opens into an intimate lounge designed for conversation and connection. Beyond its exhibition program, Wönzimer supports artists through W.A.R.P. (Wönzimer Artist Residency Program), a collection of on-site working studios that foster daily creative practice. The gallery also serves as a gathering place for artist talks, poetry, live music, film screenings, performance art, comedy, magic, and collaborations with nonprofit organizations, reinforcing its commitment to civic and cultural engagement.
